Fo-Shipping Container Home

This building was design was BNIM design firm located in Kansas City Missouri. This house is considered a green home and practices many sustainable energy techniques. The house is heated and cooled with geothermal, powered by solar panels, and uses lots of natural light to illuminate the house. I have two problems with this building. One being the amount of money she invested into building the structure. Two, being this design is that it is not truly a shipping container home. These containers were fabricated in the united states from raw steel and were never used in commerce. This in it self is no more sustainable than building metal walls to create an enclosure. Such as a Mortan building or steel barn. It would have been much more "green" to take advantage of the surplus of empty shipping containers that come from china and others importing goods to US. There are literally millions of empty containers that could be re-purposed as homes in the US. Though, she did argue that the type of containers  I am describing would not be structurally sound and impossible to build with; www.tempohousing.com would strongly disagree. They have been the leader in this field for decades, and pride themselves in taking advantage of such surplus. This is not to say this home is not beautifully designed but I would have liked to see more of an effort to up-cycle an existing product that exists in the US.
