Reuter Organ was established in 1917 and has been a part of lawrence every since. They specalize is custom organ construction, restoration, and insolation. Almost of the the materials are constructed in house by a highly trained staff of employees. Each piece of wood or metal is hand mill or machined to fit the organs specific needs. Recently they added a C and C routing machine to help speed up production. This goes against many of their tradtion methods but cuts production time in many areas in half.
It was extremely interesting to discover how they tuned each pipe to specifcly hit each pitch or sound. So, if there are 61 keys on an organ, you need 61 different pipes for 61 different pitches. However, this only covers one specific sound. This means that for each sound that an organ can produce you need (x) amount of pipes to faciltate the job. A job so difficult to engineer each sound there is a 5 year appretienceship to adequately perform the job. And let me tell you, the guy that currently holds the position loves organs more than life itself. And rightfully so, he should be proud of the work his employeer has done and will come to do in the future.
